Privacy Policy

Information about processing of personal data under GDPR.

2. Scope

This privacy policy applies both to this website at www.subzerohero.de and to the "Sub Zero Hero" application at app.subzerohero.de. The sections below indicate whether they relate to the website, the app, or both.

3. Hosting and server log files

The website and the app are hosted with Amazon Web Services (AWS) in the eu-central-1 region (Frankfurt am Main, EU). When you access them, information is automatically stored in server log files (IP address, date and time of the request, URL accessed, browser and device information). This data is technically necessary to deliver the content and keep operations secure, and is not merged with other data sources. Delivery is handled by the Amazon CloudFront content delivery network. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.

4. Cookies and local storage

We do not use tracking cookies and no analytics or audience-measurement tool.

  • Website: the only entry stored is a technically necessary item in your browser's localStorage remembering your preferred color theme (light/dark). This entry is used locally only and is not transmitted to us.
  • App: after you sign in we set a technically necessary session cookie to keep you logged in, plus a cookie storing your language preference (lifetime approx. one year). These cookies are required to operate the app. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR.

5. User accounts (app)

Registration for the app is currently invite-only (closed alpha). To sign you in we process your email address and a password. Credentials are managed via Amazon Cognito (AWS, eu-central-1 region). To verify your email address we send you a confirmation code by email. In our database we store your email address, your language preference, and timestamps for account creation and last login. The purpose is to provide the app. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (contract or pre-contractual measures).

6. In-app content

Within the app you create households and manage your freezer inventory (food items, quantities, storage locations, dates, and notes). This content is shared with the other members of the same household so you can keep track together. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR.

7. Waitlist

If you sign up for the waitlist, we process your email address and language preference in order to notify you when the app launches. Providing this is voluntary. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR (consent). You can withdraw your consent at any time by emailing hello@subzerohero.de; we will then delete your entry.

8. Processors and recipients

We use Amazon Web Services as a processor — for credential management (Amazon Cognito), the database (Amazon RDS/EC2, PostgreSQL), operational internal notifications (Amazon SNS), and content delivery via the CDN (Amazon CloudFront). Processing takes place in the eu-central-1 region (Frankfurt am Main) within the EU; no transfer to a third country occurs. We do not pass your data to third parties for advertising or analytics purposes. No external analytics, tracking, or error-reporting services are used.

9. Retention

Account data and content you create in the app are stored until you delete your account. Waitlist entries are stored until you have been notified or withdraw your entry. Server log files are kept only short-term for technical and security purposes.

10. Your rights

Under GDPR you have, in particular, the following rights:

  • Access to data stored about you (Art. 15)
  • Rectification of inaccurate data (Art. 16)
  • Erasure (Art. 17)
  • Restriction of processing (Art. 18)
  • Data portability (Art. 20)
  • Objection to processing based on Art. 6(1)(e) or (f) (Art. 21)
  • Lodge a complaint with a data protection authority (Art. 77)

You can exercise these rights in relation to the app as follows:

  • Access and data portability (Art. 15, 20): you can export your data at any time yourself as a structured JSON file from the app's settings.
  • Erasure (Art. 17): you can delete your account yourself at any time from the app's settings. A household is deleted once its last member has been removed.
